We use it as an ATS system for a recruiting business. We also use it for various other functions related to staffing as it helps with configuring payroll for contractors and managing their assignments. It is supposed to handle both sides of this business efficiently.
  • It's cloud based which is convenient.
  • It's tailored to the staffing industry so has a lot to do with the assignments and billing.
  • There are required fields so recruiters can't just skip steps when they feel like rushing.
  • This is the worst ATS I've ever used. It's hard to find what you need. It's not set up in a coherent manner and things are all over the place.
  • I have to download a resume just to view it.
  • The parse function only works in Internet Explorer and it works poorly then. Makes it impossible to tell if its actually a duplicate because it flags everything.
  • No section for meaningful notes. Notes are all just reports of action.
  • No way to make it efficient for direct hires. All geared towards staffing so it makes you fill out non-sense information that will be inaccurate and irrelevant just to satisfy field requirements.
Akken could be described to be suitable for a staffing company but just spend more money on a product that is worthwhile. It is really a terrible ATS and it's a sad fact that I was not here for the selection process. Apparently people pushed for Bullhorn but it was deemed too expensive. That is shortsighted.

  • The company has pumped enough money into trying to make Akken good that they aren't interested in changing again.
  • Seriously a terrible ATS which slows people down due to the useless functions.
  • More time lost from people needing to fix issues that arise due to the system requirements.
I've used Sendouts, Bullhorn, Primepoint, and ADP's Workforce Now. If I had been here, I would have never selected Akken. It is truly the worst ATS I've ever seen and I can't believe they are in business. It blows my mind because they are really a horrible, horrible ATS.
I give it a 1 because I couldn't give it a Zero. Horrible functionality, very ugly interface, and incredibly unfriendly to use. This system will offer nothing positive. It will only slow you down and make your workplace much more inefficient. If you are in the staffing industry where fast-paced is a way of life, this will only hurt you in the end.

We are an IT and engineering staffing firm. We use the product as our applicant tracking system. As well as our email interface. We use Akken as our one source business APS and web site.
  • The email interface is easy to use. I'd prefer if it pushes the email quicker. But it works well.
  • The job posting to website interface and ability is very easy and works extremely well.
  • The candidate and client database is very easy to use and works perfectly. The tie in from company to contact to job order is very easy.
  • When a candidate applies via applicant tracking, there is a glitch that you have to submit that candidate a different way than other candidates by using the applied function, then submitting from there. That is a glitch that should be fixed. You should be able to submit the same way and allow the system to track that he was a candidate from applicant tracking.
  • The new alerts from notes works well. The only change I would make is it is rather slow to attach a note now since the new messages have been added to notes.
  • Email should be a bit quicker. Rather than going to the server every 5 minutes, it should pull much quicker. That ability is rather easy to fix. Especially since we receive emails on our phone much quicker than we receive from Akken.
Akken works very well with every browser, which is a huge selling point for us since we are a Mac shop. The selling point I would add is that it works better on Firefox, which is one of the most secure browsers on the internet. Bullhorn and other competitors do not work on Firefox.
  • Better applicant tracking. Works extremely well to keep our candidates organized and easily submit and track our candidates through the interviewing process.
  • Employees and on point quicker. They have a task bar to accomplish every day.
  • The increase in resumes coming from our website has been unbelievable since we added the ability to publish our job orders from Akken to our site.
We preferred the ability to go with Mac computers. That was the number one selling point for us. Besides that we liked the ease of the product. The email interface looked exactly like Outlook. The calendar the same. The price was also a big selling point. It came in slightly cheaper than Bullhorn and other systems and in our opinion a better product.
We are very likely to renew. If there was one reason why I wouldn't it is the reporting section. Running reports in Akken is cumbersome compared to Bullhorn. I would like the ability the pull up a report that states the number of calls my people are making. It's difficult to do in Akken. This would be the only factor in us not renewing.
